This was a tough one. Its on my daughters summer reading list for going into 4th grade. I hadnt read it so checked it out from the library.I anticipated it being about a transgender kid until I noticed the publication date. And then I was disappointed. I wanted the book to be dealing with a current real issue. I forced myself to read it.Wow.Im not actually sure where to start.It started as the sort of book I dont really like - there are mean kids and bad kids and some of them are full of toilet

I really loved the way the intensity of Bradley was captured- and I went up and down with him as he made progress, then went backward, then forward again. There are so many beautiful touches: his absurdly long list of topics to talk about, his talking stuffed animals, the picture of the monster with the heart....I was pleasantly suprised by this book, because the cover didn't indicate to me it would be so intense or layered. I really like this one. Its a beautiful heart warming story about A boy called Jeff has just started a new school. In his class there is a boy called Bradley. Nobody likes Bradley. also new to the school is Carla a counsellor who both must visit. Bradley hates her and thinks she's always trying to trick him into misbehaving to get him into trouble. - Sometime the hardest think in this world is believing in yourself.

This is another one I think about a lot. Today I saw some chipped ceramic animals tossed in the garbage. I thought, "No! Bradley Chalkers would take them in, name them and create scenarios that would offset the loneliness and isolation that he feels amongst his peers!"

The book was okay and I wouldve given it a 5 stars, but the the only reason I gave it a 4 was because the title doesnt really match with the whole book. I mean there were boys in the girls bathroom, but there was also girls in the boys bathroom. If the title actually makes sense, I would have gave the book 5 stars
