That was a fantastic read and definitely an all-time-favorite. This book had all the feels. There were tears of joy and sadness, laughter, and some dismay. I think I can safely say that this book was scary good. And I finished it with very mixed emotions. I LOVED the ending, and yet I was super sad it was over. (view spoiler)[My favorite character was Mouse. I tear up even writing that.... And I'm not such a big fan of Tal anymore. (hide spoiler)] Rahel's character is truly inspired. *Update*I5.0 rating.Wow, it's not often I'm blown away by the sheer strength of fictional characters and their tale but Fletcher DeLancey has certainly outdone herself with this Alsea offering. I wouldn't necessarily call this a sequel, nor would I quite call it a prequel. It really is Rahel Sayana's tale through and through. I love Rahel for all her strengths and weaknesses. She experienced worst of so many things we experience every single day and on some level I connect with her because of it. She was
Outcaste tells from the dark side of Alsea, from those outside of the almighty caste system. We learn of the inherent repression of ambitions that don't fit inside it. Of the near hope- and rightless people not fitting. We too see more of the problems during the alien invasion. And we follow the misguided protagonist on her way from hell to heaven.
For the first 40% of this book, I was wondering why it was listed as the sixth installment in the series instead of a spin-off. Rest assured that if you're wondering the same thing, it all becomes clear in the following 60%! Without spoiling anything, it's very much the sixth book and does not disappoint!! Rahel's story offers a completely new perspective of Alsea, and it's every bit as brilliant and engrossing as I've come to expect from Fletcher DeLancey. There are some GREAT surprises here,
This is the story of a young girl (and later, woman) unable to 'straighten up and fly right' so to speak and instead pursues her dreams. Rahel's belief in a future that includes her dreams keep us going when life happens and the devastation when other people no longer has dreams to cling to. Some choices leads to devastating consequences when misplaced loyalty forces her hand. And just when we think she's gotten herself into a an untenable situation, her honour and conviction turns into her
Lesbian science fiction is my favourite genre but its hard to find well-written books with interesting characters and fully-imagined worlds. DeLancey is one of the best writers in this genre, so I couldnt wait for this new book in the series. I love the Alsea Chronicles and this outing was definitely on a par with the best of the previous works. Its satisfyingly long, and the reader is deeply immersed in Rahels story, covering events from childhood to the present day as that is understood in the
OutcasteBy Fletcher DeLanceyThe road to hell is paved with good intentionsI was eager and anxious to read the new Chronicles of Alsea - a series dear to my heart. I cant say that it is my favorite. I cant even say that I loved it. I like it, that is a given. I will read it again - that is also a given. Fletchers writing is better in this opus, more accomplished - the storytelling has improved in many aspects. The character development - one of the mainstrengths of the series - is even better in
